Description
We begin our adventure with an 8:30am pickup from the hotel, which takes us up into the Chiang Dao Valley, nestled in the Northern Thai Jungle. Here, we embark on a serene kayaking journey along the Mae Ping river, winding its way through bamboo jungles and temperate forests, offering an up-close and intimate view of the wilderness in Northern Thailand. Away from the well-trodden paths, we float to the earthy rhythm of the river, surrounded by undisturbed woods and overgrown banks with fallen trees reaching out into the water. Amidst the apparent chaos of nature, we go with the flow, enjoying the shade from overhanging trees and the cool water as we navigate the river’s twists and turns.
As we paddle through this tranquil landscape, we are accompanied by a wealth of birdlife and leisurely water buffaloes. After the kayaking excursion, we indulge in a delicious lunch at a local restaurant or along the riverside. Now we explore the magnificent Chiang Dao Cave System with a local guide, equipped with headlamps and flashlights. We spend around 60 minutes traversing through the awe-inspiring caverns, before joining the main route into the well-lit chambers.
This is an unforgettable trip of a lifetime that combines two of our favorite pastimes amidst the stunning beauty of nature. Beginners in both kayaking and cave exploration are welcome to join.
Daily Trip Schedule :
Hotel pickup/Return: 8:30 am – 5:30 pm.
Trip Part A : 2 hr Following the Ping River through Chiang Dao Jungle,
Trip Part B: 1 hr cave walking , flashlight provided
River Grade: Class 1+
Instruction: Lessons in basic river kayaking provided, all safety equipment included.
Fully guided
Fitness level: Good, motivated beginners are welcome,
Lunch included , vegetarian ok.
Drinking water provided on the trip
Kayaks: Maneuverable Sit On Tops Kayaks and White Water Kayaks.
Bring change of clothes, sunscreen and a hat.
Itinerary:
08:30 am Hotel pickup to our Shop location in the heart of Chiang Mai.
0830 am we provide a hotel pickup and stop at our shop for activity briefing , life jacket, helmet fitting and boat assignment .
1 hr 15m shuttle drive to Chiang Dao Valley
The approx. 1 hr drive north brings us to Chiang Dao valley . The massive Chiang Dao Mountain, fin shaped, visible miles ahead. We are now getting close to our river Put In and the entrance to our cave walk.
1hr Chiang Dao cave excursion
Here we spend approx. 60 minutes exploring the large caverns of Chiang Dao cave, a local cave guide accompanies us with a gas lantern. Our head lamps help us navigate the cave system. The large caverns with the high ceilings leave nothing out for our imagination. The local guide enthusiastically points out the various shapes resembling local animals and flora. High up on the ceiling we can see bats resting before heading out to eat local fruits. The cave trip is a round trip leading into a well lit area with various Buddha figures and religious artifacts . A short walk through the temple grounds bring us to our lunch place.

Its lunch time, Here is a good time to remind the guide of dietary restrictions. After a satisfying and strengthening meal we head off to our kayak put-in at the ping river.
2 hr + Chiang Dao river kayaking excursion
Our 2 hr + kayak trip takes us south through undisturbed jungle and bird – wild life, grassing water buffalos by the riverside watch us as we paddle by . The trip is very peaceful, surrounded by jungle and farm land, as we navigate the creek. Its great place to learn the sport and for many it is their first time. The seasonal water level changes are taken in consideration when we choose the exact Put-in, so we always have a safe trip.
1 hr15m return drive to Chiang Mai
After we kayak to our Takeout at the “Rocky Dam” we cant help but marvel at the mountain range to the west with the Chiang Dao mountain stealing the show. After we have regrouped we settle in for our drive back to Chiang Mai. We take you back to your hotel. Arrival approx. 17:30 pm.

- Minimum age is 9 years, kids till 11 should be in a Double Kayak with an adult
- Children must be accompanied by an adult
- A moderate amount of walking is involved
What do I need to bring?
- Wear firm shoes for the walk in the cave, bring a change of clothes so you can jump in and take a swim if you feel like it on your kayak trip.
- Please bring a change of clothes, plus shoes you don’t mind getting wet
