Chiang Rai Package Tour – 2 Days, 1 Night: Chiang Rai – Boat Trip – Doi Mae Salong & Highlight Temple Visits

This program is perfect for travelers who enjoy exploring by boat and appreciating scenic views along the way, with stops at local villages. The boat journey is especially pleasant during the best season, from November to February. Discover the primarily Chinese community in Doi Mae Salong and enjoy tea tastings at the local tea plantations, set against a backdrop of stunning landscapes. You’ll also visit the Golden Triangle, where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos converge. Chiang Rai is renowned for its beautiful and unique temples, including the White Temple, Blue Temple, and the Red Temple, also known as Huay Plakung Temple. Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the Karen Longneck tribe, known for wearing brass rings around their necks.

TOUR DESCRIPTION:

Day 1: Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai

We will depart from Chiang Mai and drive to the northernmost province of Thailand, Chiang Rai. The journey offers a scenic route, and after approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes, we will take a break at the Mae Kha Chan hot spring. Afterward, we will continue driving for about 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours to the boat pier, where we’ll take a boat trip along the river, enjoying the scenery and countryside. This boat ride lasts about 1 hour, with a stop at a mixed Karen village for a brief visit. We’ll then continue by boat for another 1 hour and 20 minutes to Pha Tai, the Lahu Village, also known as Muser Pha Tai village.

Next, we’ll drive about 1 hour to Doi Mae Salong, located in a scenic and mountainous area in the northernmost region of Thailand. This primarily Chinese community offers various activities, including tea tastings at the local tea plantations. The scenery here is stunning. After our visit, we will drive for about 1 hour and 50 minutes to the Golden Triangle, where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos meet. We will stay overnight here.

Day 2: Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai

We will visit the Karen Longneck hill tribe, as well as the Big-eared and Akha hill tribe people. Following this, we’ll visit the Blue Temple in Chiang Rai, Wat Huay Prakung, and Wat Rong Khun (the White Temple), which is unique for its white color and glass mosaics that make it sparkle. The White Temple is the masterwork of Khun Chalemchai, who considers it an offering to Lord Buddha and his beloved country. Finally, we will drive back to Chiang Mai, which will take approximately 3 hours.

ITINERARY:

Day 1: Chiang Mai – Mae Kha Chan Hot Spring – Boat Trip – Doi Mae Salong Tea Plantation – Golden Triangle

  • 07:30 am: Pick up from your hotel.
  • Drive for about 1 hour and 20 minutes and take a break to soak your feet at Mae Kha Chan Hot Spring.
  • 1-hour boat trip.
  • Stop at the Mixed Karen Hill Tribe Village.
  • Continue the journey on the Kok River for about 1 hour and 20 minutes to Pha Tai, the Lahu Village (Muser Pha Tai village).
  • Have Lunch at Doi Mae Salong Chinese Restaurant
  • Visit the Doi Mae Salong Tea Plantation and enjoy tea tastings at the local plantations
  • Visit the Golden Triangle, where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos meet.
  • Optional: Take a boat trip along the Mae Khong River.
  • Overnight stay at the Golden Triangle (Your own expense) (Note: Please book your hotel in advance. There are many hotel here, such as Siam Golden Triangle, One Budget Chiang Sean, or you can check with us for recommendations on the best area for your stay.

Day 2: Chiang Rai – Karen Longneck – Blue Temple – Huay Prakung Temple – White Temple – Chiang Mai

  • Pick up from your hotel in Chiang Rai.
  • Visit the Karen Longneck, Big-eared, and Akha hill tribe people.
  • Visit the Blue Temple.
  • Visit Huay Prakung Temple.
  • Lunch on the way.
  • Visit the White Temple (Wat Rong Khun).
  • Return to your hotel in Chiang Mai about 6 pm.
